Beyond the Label: the Docker's Umbrella - 70th Anniversary of the Closure of the Liverpool Overhead Railway in Liverpool, See official event dates, Check official...

The Liverpool Overhead Railway closed on 30 December 1956, after more than 60 years of operation. It had opened in 1893 to carry workers to jobs along the docks and waterfront and was the first electrically-operated elevated railway in the world. Quick and reliable, used by workers and tourists alike. The 70th anniversary of the track's closure leaves many unexplored questions. Why was it built? Why was it so important to the people of Liverpool? And what has been it's legacy since it closed? This discussion with Curator of Land Transport, Work and Industry, Sharon Brown, will explore the history of the Liverpool Overhead Railway and fond recollections of what it meant to the city it served. Please note, tickets will be released 60 days in advance of the session date.
