Lending a hand at Crossness Pumping Station

Crossness Pumping Station is an historic Victorian sewage pumping station, built in the 1860s as part of Joseph Bazalgette’s revolutionary sewer system to improve public health in London. Today, it is a restored industrial heritage site and museum, famous for its ornate cast-iron architecture and impressive steam-powered machinery. The task We've been asked to go along to help the regular team of volunteers who maintain and run the site. There's lots to be done and our tasks will vary depending on what's most needed on the day. For example, we could end up cutting back weeds, replanting, and other tasks in the Victorian Formal Garden, or help with re-ballasting the narrow gauge railway ready for it to start carrying passengers around the site again. We'll work for around an hour then head to the Ness Café for tea and biscuits. Please bring gardening gloves 🧤. All other equipment and tools will be provided. Our contact at the pumping station is Tom Registe. 📍When and where Please arrive for 10.30am, entering the pumping station site via the visitor car park in Bazalgette Way, - here's the location: What3words: ///acted.once.rise. Alternatively if walking along the Thames Path you can use the gate on the path - the approximate What3Words location is ///prove.socket.moves. If driving you can park in the car park.
